Their requirements: Needed a legal compliance solution for health and safety, food safety and fire safety – in addition to the training for these areas. They also wanted to review all service contracts, improve service levels and reduce costs.

Shieldyourself solution:

• Reviewed HACCP and food hygiene audit at each site. Compiled Food Safety Management System to comply with Food Safety Act 1990 and associated regulations.
• Conducted full health and safety policy review, roles, responsibilities, work place hazards and risk assessments and provided revised policy and procedures.
• Provided management with policy training session. Trained all staff via user-friendly Learning Management System - saving them 80% on training costs. Head Office also knows where each employee is up to in training and can produce site-wide reports from their desk.
• Developed a General Managers' internal audit. Reviewed existing kitchen audit, bar audit and 1,000-point check audit with head office personnel. Reviewed results of audit. Monitoring accident statistics to feed back into risk assessments for annual audit.
• Developed an external audit system to manage brand standards, health and safety, food safety and fire safety at site level.
• Conducted full fire risk assessment at each site using former chief station officers. Designated Fire Wardens and fire Marshals. Delivered fire safety training to all staff at each site.
• Established annual pest prevention contract (in all areas and for each site) using our unique pest control intelligence system.
• Conducted manual handling and first aid review and training.
• Set up washroom services contract for all sites.
• Liaised with the Home Authority Environmental Health Departments. Dealt with any local environmental health or health and safety compliance issues for each site.
• Co-chairing their Health and Safety committee meetings with managers to provide support and advice.
• Now managing Waste Management contract, PAT testing (portable appliance), gas safety checks and fire extinguisher contract.
• Checked their suppliers for legal compliance.
• Provide ad hoc email and telephone support and advice, by qualified EHO if required.
