Sevenoaks Chronicle - 29 June 2006
New figures released by the Health Protection Agency
show that Sevenoaks district has the highest incidence of
food poisoning in Kent.
More than 230 cases were reported in 2005, compared with just
52 in each of the Maidstone and Tonbridge and Malling districts,
and experts predict that figure is likely to rise by 30 to 40
per cent this year. According to health and safety and food
safety consultancy Shieldyourself, the expected rise will mainly
be due to the ‘World Cup effect’ where warm summer
temperatures combine with drunken catering staff to cause an
increase threat of an outbreak of food poisoning.
An SDC spokesman for Environmental Health said: “If it is believed that
food poisoning has occurred as a result of eating at a commercial
premise in the district then the team will investigate immediately
and take appropriate action”. |
