Previously these courses where referred to as the ‘basic’ and ‘foundation’ food safety course. The three qualifications have been developed to ensure that the learning is relevant to your specific business requirement and to meet the National Occupational Standards. Who needs a certificate?
This course is ideal if you work in a catering, manufacturing or retail premises where food is prepared, cooked and handled.
The course is also excellent food safety training if you work as a maintenance engineer, pest control technician, cleaner, delivery driver etc. in a business that prepares, cooks or handles food. You do not need any previous experience or training to take this course.
Typical environments may include: pubs, hotels, restaurants, supermarkets and retail environments, food and drink manufacturers, hospitals, care homes, schools and prisons.
What will I learn?
- Understand how to control food safety risks (personal hygiene, food storage, cooking and handling).
- Gain a firm grasp of the importance of food safety and knowledge of the systems, techniques and procedures involved.
- Confidence and expertise to safely deliver quality food to customers.
How do I get my certificate?
The course takes one day to complete and at the end of the day, you will be required to answer 20 correct questions out of 30 in a multiple choice test. If you have answered 20 or more correct questions your certificate will be sent out to you in the post.
It is recommended that you refresh this certificate at least every three years.
